Linssen Yachts factory

Unlike the standard “houseboats” offered by charter companies, the LBH partners have decided to use real motor yachts and indeed those made by Linssen Yachts BV in Maasbracht in the Netherlands.  The family business, which began life in 1949 as a small boat yard, has now become a market leader in its third generation. Today, Linssen Yachts is famous for its top-quality steel displacement yachts and for its claim to be constantly innovating. No matter which decade we look back on, it is obvious that Linssen Yachts has always been behind the development of spectacular yachts and production technologies. That has not changed today!

The Linssen Boating Holidays network is an excellent way to 'try before you buy'. In most locations, there is no Licence required and there are over 75 luxury Linssen motoryachts available for hire in many the best of Europe's waterways. Visit the Linssen Yachts website for more information on new steel Linssen yachts, developments etc. www.linssenyachts.com

No sailing Licence needed

You don't need a motor boat cruising licence in all countries*1!
Do you have little or no boating experience? Are you not sure if you're confident enough to take the wheel? Many customers before you felt the same but they were pleased to find out how easy it is to sail and manoeuvre a Linssen. This adventure includes simple things like casting off and mooring or navigating through locks. Other skippers and the lock keepers will be only too pleased to help you. You will soon have “your” yacht under control. All yachts are fitted with a bow thruster, which often ensures even smoother handling when used in conjunction with a stern thruster*. Your LBH partner will also be pleased to supplement the already comprehensive handover process with additional sailing lessons*.

On the basis of their many years of experience with Linssen yachts and the knowledge of their specific regions, the LBH partners have created various interesting routes for you. These vary from a weekend to three weeks or even more. The routes are suitable for beginners, for boaters with chartering experience and for seasoned skippers who have been exploring European waterways for years. A wide range of route suggestions have been created that could be characterised as ‘easy’, ‘moderate’ or ‘demanding’.

Every LBH guest however experiences a voyage, the number of sailing hours and the priorities when enjoying such a voyage, in a different manner. So ask the LBH partner at the destination of your choice which route is the most suitable for you and your fellow boaters. He will be pleased to advise you. Moreover, he will do his best to accommodate any individual wishes you may have. We would like to wish you in advance a wonderful sailing adventure on ‘your’ Linssen, somewhere in Europe…

The Route

Each LBH partner will recommend several routes to you. These are merely suggestions to help you enjoy a pleasant and relaxing way of balancing your travelling time with stays at beautiful mooring places. However, there's nothing to prevent you from varying your trip any way you want. So if you fall in love with a particular village or city, you can simply stay there longer!

Check in

On your arrival, you will be welcomed by our base manager. The few formalities will be completed smoothly. This will give you the chance to discuss your route. If you have pre-ordered any items, they will already be waiting for you on board*. If you would like to make any further purchases, we will be happy to advise you*. Once you have been allocated a parking space*2, you can take your luggage on board (rigid suitcases are not practical on board your yacht…). When you have acclimatised a little, the handover and familiarisation process can begin.

All on-board equipment will be explained and training given. You will be instructed about casting off and mooring and passing through locks and told how to navigate and operate the yacht responsibly in your own interest and in the interest of your crew, fellow water sport enthusiasts and the environment. Sailing is teamwork. It's not only the captain that has to keep a lookout! The diesel and water tanks are full. You can take on fresh water in many marinas and at many quaysides*. Now you're all set. The great voyage can begin…

Comfort

Although each yacht in the fleet has its own unique character, every single floating home is amazingly well-equipped! The interior is magnificent, with its beautiful wood finishes. All your comforts are catered for. You have a wonderful view from the bright saloon, you have everything you could want in the kitchen and the cabins are spacious, as are the toilet and shower cubicles. There is a hot water supply. The lighting and the equipment power is provided by the on-board batteries which are charged automatically while the yacht is underway. The yachts have a shore connection for the 220 V on-board network and usually also an additional battery charger and inverter for the 220 V circuit*2. The time you spend on deck is made as pleasant as possible by the deck furniture and all-weather protection*2.

Bicycles

You should also hire bicycles for your crew*2. This will increase the distance you can travel around your floating home. And you will also be getting some exercise. Which will make your Coq au Vin in the evening taste even better… And you can cycle off to fetch fresh rolls and your newspaper every day in time for your breakfast on deck.

When?

If you don't have to take your holidays during the summer, you can also enjoy seeing the trees blossom in spring or the glorious colours of autumn. In addition, the rates are particularly attractive then. The atmosphere by and on the water may even be better during these seasons. Find out about the great deals on offer for (long) weekends, mini-breaks and other tailor-made options*2. It's no problem to book through the Linssen Boating Holidays® network. And in your own language.

Your national/regional LBH contact will be happy to make your booking with one of the other partners in the destination country of your choice. Just give them a call or send them an e-mail. They will be delighted to arrange everything for you!

Parking, transfer and internet?

The LBH partners provide a car park, airport and rail shuttle service at their bases and Wi-Fi (W-Lan) in their marinas. What is on offer differs between bases/countries*2.

The yachts which are chartered within the Linssen Boating Holidays network are steel motor yachts bearing the Linssen Yachts brand. These yachts are developed and built entirely at the company’s production facility in Maasbracht in South Limburg (Netherlands). They are eminently suitable for wonderfully peaceful cruises on the rivers, canals and lakes of Europe’s interior. At a relaxed cruising speed of 5-7 knots (10-13 km/hour), you will slide through the countryside – with all the time in the world to enjoy it.

What type of boat do I need?

The type of boat that is chartered depends on the charter partner. They boats come in different lengths and beams. A bigger yacht will have more cabins (more sleeping berths) and will often have more living space and technical equipment on board.

What aspects should be borne in mind?

AC or SEDAN?

Generally speaking, the yachts can be divided into two types: the AC yacht and the SEDAN yacht. The photograph and accompanying layouts below show two identical Linssen yachts, in terms of length. The yacht on the left is an AC type and the one on the right is a SEDAN.

You have excellent visibility of what is going on around you from the high aft deck. The excellent visibility makes manoeuvring especially easy. When steering inside, you are somewhat lower and closer to the water.
To go inside, you go down the steps from the raised aft deck. You can easily walk inside through the large outward-opening double teak doors from the large open cockpit, all on the same level. Even if you are steering inside you have excellent contact with family and/or friends sitting on the bench seats behind you in the open cockpit.
Tips for when you are sailing

Once you are enjoying life on board and happily sailing along, the on-board electronics provide for the necessary comforts and your safety:

  • the bow and stern thrusters* ensure that you are always in control of your yacht when manoeuvring in marinas and narrow passages
  • the depth gauge emits signals when the water threatens to become too shallow
  • the “rudder position” indicators shows you the position of the rudder, which is handy when you are setting out or sitting in a lock
  • some larger yachts have a map plotter which shows a navigation chart of the area concerned, which makes it easy to find your bearings
Living on the water means that you are completely free to go and stop where you like. However, you have to take account of a number of practical matters when underway:
Water Your Linssen yacht is provided with a water tank (between 220 and 660 litres, depending on the model). You use this water for washing yourself and the dishes, flushing the toilet and showering. At home, we use an average of about 120 litres of water per person per day. So you will have to be somewhat more economical when on board your yacht. If you have four people on board, you will quickly get through between 100 and 200 litres of water a day. It is therefore essential to always check the tank in the marinas you call in at and if necessary top it up.
 Diesel

Just like your car, your yacht also needs fuel, which is always standard diesel. The tank contains an average of between 240 and 840 litres of diesel (again, depending on the model). Your boat is fitted with particularly fuel-efficient marine diesel engines. A few comparisons:

  • A 9-metre Linssen yacht with a 55 HP engine consumes about 4 litres per hour at a cruising speed of 5.5 knots (10 km/hour) and can travel about 300 nautical miles (600 km) on a 240 litre tank.
  • A 13-metre Linssen yacht with a 150 HP engine consumes about 7 litres per hour at a cruising speed of 7 knots (13 km/hour) and can travel about 800 nautical miles (1,450 km) on a 820 litre tank.

You will therefore consume about 200 litres of fuel during a week-long charter trip in which you travel about 5 hours a day.

Electricity supply
12 V
230 V

A motor yacht has multiple power supplies on board. In general, a 12 V supply will be used for lighting and other small consumers. This electricity is produced by the batteries of the on-board power system which are charged by the engine’s dynamo, just like your car.

There are also 230 V power sockets (on most yachts*). You can use them, for example, to connect a coffee machine or charge your mobile device or laptop.

This all sounds very complicated, but you will hardly notice it in practice. The systems have been designed to switch on and off automatically as required.

  • length between 8.20 and 15 metres
  • number of sleeping berths between 2 and 6 (a bench can often be converted to a double bed to provide additional sleeping berths)
  • one or two toilets
  • one or two showers
  • fully equipped galley
  • saloon with seating
